Here at The Dojo we believe that martial arts are a way of life and beyond that of just a sport. Your martial arts abilities will grow and stay with you throughout your life and should not be treated lightly. The Dojo is a place for all martial artists, seasoned or new, and provides many different forms and styles for you to learn and to practice.
Equality, respect, selflessness and modesty are values we push; we show you how to use your pride to give you confidence in your abilities. All our students know that we take our instruction seriously, but we do it without forcing rules upon you, as we teach with understanding and guidance. Here we take those with who desire to improve upon themselves and help them gain confidence in themselves while learning to respect others.
Although we primarily train simple to improve upon our skills and techniques; you can opt to grade formally and progress through your desired art. We have many styles you can choose, and even if you're unsure, we can assess and recommend directions for you to take.
One of the more prevalent forms taught at The Dojo is Ba-Sia. Ba-sia is an integrated martial arts form that incorporates many aspects and concepts from Jeet Kune Do while using techniques from other effective arts. It is a comprehensive art which has been extensively developed right here at The Dojo. Free from the constraints of set form and politics that traditional martial arts suffer from; Ba-sia will allow you to express yourself and will allow you to adapt to the art without it shaping you in a preset mold.
It is typically a four year journey to becoming an instructor in Ba-sia. You will find that you cannot simply pay for your gradings and skip belts. You will only advance when ready and when knowledgeable about the art and how you can apply it to yourself and others.
You won't be able to buy a black belt here. There are many schools that practice a philosophy of earning money and not of effective teaching. We are not one of them.
Head Instructor, Barry Moran
"I have been practising martial arts for over 30 years now and have always been actively training under more than one art at any time. This eccentric approach which was unusual then is more commonly known know as cross training.
My approach to combat is simple. Know your ranges. Long or short, no matter what you use, whether it is with weapons, kicks, punches, locks, grappling or take downs. Know your ranges.
Whatever art you choose is simply a method to understand the ranges that you are in. We are all different and we all express ourselves differently. Your height, shape, strength, ability, belief, confidence and even your moral outlook will influence how you fight.
How we view life and see ourselves, where we live and our financial circumstance have a direct result on how we train. The style or forms we gravitate towards, the people we train with, who we fight against. All of these things have a direct consequence to how we progress within ourselves and our chosen martial art!
Our academy's aim is to help you find your way and to help you achieve your goals to the best of your abilities. The rest is up to you"
